Early last week I cooked a three-course meal. I know, no big deal, right?

I usually stick to two courses though. I launch myself into the main course, and then put a pre-prepared pudding on the table. Minimum effort, maximum time to catch-up with friends. But last Tuesday night I pulled out all the stops. I served watercress and soda bread to start, then bavette with chimichurri, and finally a pavlova….

If I’m being completely honest, my immediate thoughts on being invited to an “immersive evening” to celebrate 200 years of Johnnie Walker whisky weren’t entirely positive. “Immersive” feels similar to “interactive theatre”. And “interactive theatre” reminds me of a night at a run-down Islington theatre, where Thomas was dragged on stage and asked to “tell a joke…come on any joke…?” – but that’s a different story….

My mother always used to say that “no news is good news.” But I’m not sure. When it comes to naughty boys, no news usually means that they’re concocting some sort of cunning plan.

And that’s the thing about Bompas and Parr. They are two naughty boys who have carved out their own niche in the market as ‘jellymongers’ (or “architectural foodsmiths”)… and when there’s no news, it’s because they’re planning something bigger and madder and even more extravagant than their previous stunt….
